It was established in 1970 with merely 160 students. Presently more than 8000 students are taking their education in this college under seventy one academic programmes. The college is located centrally in the Ahmednagar city and covers the area of 25.87 acres. The college is permanently affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune (formerly University of Pune) and is recognized under 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act 1956. It is one of the educational institutes successfully run by the Ahmednagar Jilha Maratha Vidya Prasarak Samaj, Ahmednagar. Chhatrapati Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur is the source of inspiration behind the establishment of this premier institute. He donated grants in 1918 for the building of Maratha Boarding in memory of his father Hutatma Karveer Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj IV who fought against injustice of British Raj and sacrificed his life for the nation. His martyrdom (Samadhi) opposite to this institute is the source of inspiration for the founders of Ahmednagar Jilha Maratha Vidya Prasarak Samaj, Ahmednagar.
